영국 출신의 예술가 아트앤드류(ARTXDREW)의 디지털 이미지와 회화를 넘나드는 작품 스타일은 트랜디한 동시대 감각을 보여준다. 작가는 어린 시절에 접했던 종이로 된 만화책과 애니메이션 영화에 완전히 매료되었다. 그는 추억이 담긴 만화 속 캐릭터를 통해 기술 발전으로 빠르게 변화하는 사회에서 도태되고 잊혀진 것을 다시금 되살린다. 부패하고 녹슬게 하여 반복적으로 나열된, 한때는 위대한 주인공이었던 캐릭터들은 붕괴한 아날로그의 시대와 희미해져가는 옛 추억, 쇠퇴한 팝아트를 생각나게 한다. 작가는 이것을 '부패한 팝아트'라고 명명하며 본인만의 스타일로 기존의 캐릭터를 재해석한다.

British artist ARTXDREW's digital image and work style transcends painting show with trendy contemporary vibe. The writer was completely fascinated by comic books and animated films he encountered as a child.

Through the characters in the cartoon, he brings back things that have been culled and forgotten in a rapidly changing society due to technological advances. Listed repeatedly by corruption and rust, the once great protagonists remind us of the collapsed analog age, fading old memories, and declining pop art. The artist names is "corrupt pop art" and recreated the existing character in his own styles through his art.

Artist Statement

One of my earliest childhood memories is the feeling of excitement every time I was handed a blank sheet of paper. I’d let my imagination run until every corner of the canvas was covered.

 As life continued, I obtained an Optometry degree in 2013 and found a new passion in caring for patients’ eye health. Although this is something I still enjoy, I found less and less opportunities to be creative.

The events in 2019 triggered a time to reflect. I was once again reunited with an old friend, the blank canvas but this time things were different. Over the last decade there’s been exponential advances in technology and fear the era of hand drawn characters may soon be forgotten.  Influenced by contemporary pop art and eastern culture, my story and experiences are now told with each piece I create.  My work explores the fading memories of the analogue age and the conflict between nostalgia and technology.

As my audience follows me on this journey, I hope through the use of colour, my art brings new light on the once great protagonists, triggering both a new yet familiar experience.

제일 초기의 어린 시절 기억 중 하나는 매번 빈 종이를 받을 때마다 느꼈던 설렘입니다. 상상력을 펼쳐서 캔버스의 모든 구석을 메우곤 했죠.

인생이 계속되면서, 2013년에 안과학 학위를 취득하고 환자의 안전한 눈 건강에 대한 새로운 열정을 발견했습니다. 이것은 아직도 즐기는 일이지만, 점점 더 창의적인 기회가 줄어들게 되었습니다.

2019년의 사건은 나를 다시 한 번 되돌아보게 만들었습니다. 이번에는 예전 친구인 빈 캔버스와 다시 만났지만 이번에는 조금 다른 것이었습니다. 지난 10년 동안 기술이 급격히 발전하였고, 손으로 그린 캐릭터들의 시대가 곧 잊혀질까 두려워했습니다. 현대적인 팝 아트와 동양 문화에 영향을 받아, 나의 이야기와 경험은 이제 제가 만드는 작품마다 전해지고 있습니다. 나의 작품은 아날로그 시대의 희미해지는 기억과 향수와 기술 사이의 갈등을 탐구합니다.

관객들이 이 여정을 따라와주면, 색상을 통해 나의 예술이 한때 위대했던 주인공들에게 새로운 빛을 가져다 줄 것을 희망합니다. 이는 새롭지만 익숙한 경험을 일으킬 것입니다.
