Taro Yakumo

야쿠모 타로(b.1976)는 예술가인 어머니와 갤러리를 운영하는 아버지 사이에서 그림이 둘러싸여 미술과 밀접한 환경에서 자랐다. 어릴 적 아버지가 일하며 보여줬던 그림, 미술 서적과 어머니가 은판을 두드리며 조각하는 소리가 그의 안에 생생히 남아 작업의 재료가 되었다. 젊은 시절 카세트테이프에서 흘러나오던 비틀즈의 앨범 'Beatles for Sale'을 처음 듣고 놀랐던 것을 시작으로 Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Stone Roses의 기타 사운드에 푹 빠졌었던 작가는 2000년 초부터 현대 미술의 세계로 돌아와 현대 사회를 상징하는 모티브 담긴 작업을 보여주고 있다. 유화를 그리고 온 집안을 낙서로 뒤덮었던 어린 시절부터 음악에 매료되었던 젊은 날을 반추하며 그의 기억 속에 존재하는 노스텔지어(nostalgia)를 꺼내 놓는다.

Taro Yakumo (b.1976) grew up in an environment closely related to art, surrounded by paintings, with his mother an artist and his father running a gallery. As a child, the artwork and art books that his father showed him while working, and the sound of his mother's carving by tapping on silver plates remained vivid in him and became materials for his work. The artist, who was fascinated by the guitar sounds of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and the Stone Roses, starting from when he heard the Beatles' album 'Beatles for Sale' on a cassette tape for the first time, returned to contemporary art world in early 2000. He keep showcasing his work that appear motifs symbolizing modern society. He reflects on the days when he first painted oil paintings and covered his entire house with graffiti as a child, and when he was fascinated by music, bringing out the nostalgia that exists in his memories.
