ALPHBET CARD SERIES

작가가 수년간 구축해왔던 자본주의적 세계관에서 벗어나 2021년 초 새로운 관점의 그림 세계를 관찰하게 된 신작 알파벳 카드 시리즈는 작가의 어린 딸이 색칠 공부를 하던 순간을 목격하면서부터 시작되었다.
색칠공부 책에 삐뚤삐뚤하게 채색해 놓은 것을 보고 정해진 가이드 라인에 제약을 받지 않고 색을 자유롭게 칠해 놓은 어린아이의 색칠공부놀이에서 강한 영감을 받은 것이다. 기존에 낙서처럼 자유롭게 배치되었던 캐릭터들은 각각 주인공으로서 존재가 극대화되어 캔버스에 등장한다. 어릴 적 벽에 붙어있던 단어카드를 떠올려보면 A부터 Z까지 나열된 각각의 단어를 떠올려 볼 수 있을 것이다. 잭슨심의 알파벳들은 캔버스에 안착하여 우리의 어린시절의 동심을 환기시키고 동시대적 감각의 색채에 매료되게 한다.

The artist who for years built up a capitalist world view started a series with a new perspective in early 2021 after observing his young daughter with her coloring book. He was inspired by how a child freely colors without restriction not minding it being crooked. Characters that were arranged like scribbles appear on canvas as main characters with maximized existence. 
If you think of the alphabet word cards that were on your wall as a child, you will be able to visualize each word listed from A to Z. Jackson Sim's alphabets settle on the canvas, reawakening our memories of childhood innocence and fascinates us with colors of contemporary sense.
